(no subject)

We ordered Chinese in part because I wanted egg drop soup. Picked it up, got home, no egg drop soup. The receipt stapled to the bag didn’t have it listed. The order we sent in had it listed.

We can only assume they ran out of it and just didn’t tell us. I made half-assed egg drop soup, which is chicken stock, cornstarch (not the best starch for it, I am told, but it’s what we had), some frozen corn and, of course, egg. Eh. Did not scratch the itch.

Phooey.

Sympathies. I had a DoorDash order of pho, which I was really looking forward to, get canceled on me and no reason given. Bah.

I knoooooow, it sucks when you have a food craving and you do all the things and the food doesn't happen! I hope you get the best egg drop soup this weekend.

I hope at least you weren't charged for the soup you didn't get?

Eaglet is working on perfecting their egg-drop soup, for those times when they can't convince us to order takeout from the local noodle shop. It's gotten decent, but still isn't as good as the takeout.

Potato starch generally works better than corn, for this.

It was the easiest recipe from a Chinese cookbook-for-kids they have. They've yet to attempt any other. :-P

(We always have potato starch left over from Passover. The local Korean grocery also has a bunch of other starches, including sweet-potato, rice, and tapioca, that we haven't yet tried in egg-drop.)

Oh, is that why my corn starched version isn't as good! I know I have potato starch stashed away someplace, I have to try it another time. So glad I clicked in the comments.

Well that sucks.
