Aaaaaaarrrgggghhhhh!!!
I have been stalking the high-end version of the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 for MONTHS. Thy get them in batches and put them up in their online store, so you have to manage to check the store at the time when there's a batch live.
I finally did it on June 27th. On June 29th, I got the order confirmation. Not the shipping confirmation, mind you, just the acknowledgement that an order had been placed.
A week ago, I emailed customer support with my concern that I hadn't received it nor any shipping information yet. Yesterday I got an email asking for confirmation that I hadn't received it yet, I sent a reply with no, I have not received it. I got an email this morning saying "I'm sorry you haven't received it. Our order information shows that it was delivered."
This is the shipping information:
Service:UPS 2nd Day AirĀ®
Weight:11.60 lbs
Shipped/Billed On:06/30/2015
Delivered On:07/02/2015 11:51
Delivered To: ORLANDO, FL, US
Signed By:JONES
Left At:Residential
I see three problems with this:
1. I did not pay for 2nd Day Air, I paid for Ground.
2. My name is not Jones.
3. I DO NOT LIVE ANYWHERE NEAR ORLANDO, FLORIDA.
So I phoned up Wacom support and talked to someone about it, and the stage at which things are is that she has to go talk to the shipping team and get back to me. I expect that either someone screwed up very, very badly, or someone in the shipping team is attempting to pull a scam and steal it.
If this doesn't get resolved, I guess our next step is to institute a chargeback on the credit card--we haven't got the merchandise, and they've pretty much proved that they failed to ship it to me.
In conclusion: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

But speaking of tablets, Chuckles is really really interested in getting into digital art. Do you have any basic hardware suggestions? Our old desktop is on its last legs, so we're considering getting either a laptop or desktop that the kids can share, along with a drawing tablet for Chuckles.

As far as recommendations, I'm going to point you to Ray Frenden's reviews. He's a pro artist who works mostly digitally, and who reviews just about every bit of hardware that comes out, both high-end and budget. His review of Monoprice graphics tablets are what got me to buy one of those to replace my Wacom graphics tablet when I wanted a larger one.
If you do decide to go with a Monoprice tablet, the pen that comes with the tablet, at least 2 years ago when I bought it, is seriously flimsy. I'd suggest buying a separate pen from them, which is what I did.
Can't help you much with the computer itself, because I told Toby I needed as much RAM and as much speed as I could handle, as I tend to work on enormous, many-layered files in Photoshop, which is a resource hog as it is, with multiple programs open in the background. So I'm basically on a high-end gaming computer. :) But for general noodling, you can go for something slower and with less memory, though you might want to consider something you can easily upgrade the memory and graphics card on later, if one of your kids decides to focus more heavily on digital art and starts getting frustrated.

What is it with all the scamming? The other day 76 called us and wanted to know if it was us buying 150 bucks worth of gas for two cars (buses?) in some other state. We can't figure out how the assclown got our number from several states away in order to load up two gigantic cars.

If Wacom has proof that they didn't screw up, then UPS must have. I would believe pretty much anything of them.

Anyway, SOMEBODY is at fault here.
* FedEx delights in leaving credit cards and other signature-only things at the door without knocking, that is, when they even bother to show up and don't just mark it as "nobody home" without knocking.
