Hmmm. These are all books I was into when I was a teen, and I was an advanced reader for my age, so I can't really say how appropriate any one book would be. Also, I tended to like books with female main characters, so YMMV

The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper

I loved the Dealing with Dragons series by Patricia Wrede.
Tamora Pierce was also a fav of mine.
